You capture the unending, often bitter grievances that family members can cling to ,essentially forever, that keep the wounds from healing; in the same way that picking at a scab, making a wound bleed over and over , can do. In Hallmark Family movies, families come together and finally, tearfully, change. But I think that is a rare occurrence in real life.
At times I was a little confused by who was speaking. Is there a reason you decided to skip the “he said…” I’d be interested to hear your theories about this way of writing dialogue. As I read this I felt I was reading a script for a play( are you considering developing this family interaction into a play?)
Bottom line: I love reading dialogue, which always reveals so much about characters, much more than narrative descriptions. And your dry, at times satirical humor comes through as the dialogue unfolds.👍
