Medium confuses a lot of people, especially in the beginning. I have been a member and writing on Medium for a little over 4 months. It seems that every few weeks I advance a little bit more in understanding the complexity of the. Medium platform .

One of the biggest problems for me is the technical side of things, but I am sure most younger people don’t have so many problems with that.

Medium can feel like a really supportive community. That is what I enjoy most about it. Every day I get responses about my work from people all over the world who want to show their appreciation and support. It feels so good to read these comments and feel part of a community of writers.

My best advice to you if you hope to connect with others is to reach out and connect with them first. Read at least 3 articles every day( not a sacrifice because there is so much good writing on Medium)and then write a response. Try to make your response be thoughtful and supportive. But never praise anyone’s work unless you really mean it. Otherwise you are just pretending to be responsive, and that will come across as insincere, which it is.

The benefit of taking the time to respond to the writers of the articles you like is that chances are they will be curious about you, check out your profile, follow you, and read some of your work too.

Voila! You have started your community on Medium!

Have fun with Medium and use it to set a fire under yourself so you feel the urge to write more and write better!
