I really enjoyed this essay, Mehmet. I appreciate your including me in the list of authors who try to promote self compassion in their work. Many of us are encouraged from an early age to be kind and empathetic to others, but as you mention several times in your article, the exercise of self compassion is sometimes viewed as selfish and self indulgent. As you always do, you have done quite a bit of research. I am heartened to see that science is now catching up with the idea that to love and care for others, we must first love and care for ourselves. Inside everyone of us is a vulnerable child. If we acknowledge that child tenderly, we both will benefit.
