… side of mistrust,
knowing how she’ll deny
the mother’s passing years
in efforts to negate her own.
Then, the daughter, in the midst of her flutter,
arriving one day,
will come to notice
the way the marigolds move in the breeze
under the light of a perfect August afternoon.
